Build Your Bridge to 2021

Dec 11, 2020 | Weekend Wisdom

Boy has it been a year!

If your life has been anything like mine, you’ve been tested a lot. You’ve been forced to evaluate and reevaluate what really matters to you and adjust your priorities, maybe more than once!!

Sometimes when I’m in the process of evaluating my progress, it feels really great and makes me want to shout from the rooftops, and other days, it makes me feel really low thinking about what I’ve “lost”, even if I never really had ‘it’ to begin with.

If I’m really honest with myself, this is a process that I go through almost every year or every cycle if it’s been layered with some kind of expectation or goal. (It just feels a little more intense this year.) There is a point in this reflection that I inevitably end up feeling defeated and disappointed because I haven’t reached “ANY OF MY GOALS” or so I say. I tend to blow my evaluation of what has actually happened way out of proportion focusing on one possible end result instead of the process. Unfortunately, when I do, I forget to celebrate all the little milestones along the way.

By bringing more consciousness around my reflection, which often involves asking a more balanced set of questions, I am able to face looking at the failures with more objectivity. More importantly, I allow myself to see all those little successes and celebrate the beautiful detours that often turn out to be more right for me than what I initially imagined.

If you’ve been following my journey, you know that I’d imagined leaving my previous “day job” managing a Pilates studio in NYC for some fabulous theatre gig yet to be determined that was going to happen for me in the summer or fall of 2020. The pandemic definitely made that completely out of the scope of reality, which I realized pretty quickly. Nonetheless, my heart was still craving something else, something bigger, something I could call my very own. At first, I felt pretty lost about how to get there, but eventually I found my way and hence Cultivating Empathy Coaching was born.

I recently heard a business coach say that running your own business is the ultimate personal development journey and nothing could be more true. (If only I could remember who said it!!) While my biz is still in its nascent form, I am learning so much about myself.

My next big goal for this business is to learn how I can better serve my community through the next 6 months(and beyond). My mentor, Jeannine Yoder, has been speaking a lot to us in Mentor Masterclass lately about program applications. One of the things she said really stuck with me. When she is crafting an application, she always builds it so that just filling it out is of the highest value to her prospective client, even if they never sign up. 🤯

So, I would love to hear from you, my community about what you are grappling with as you move from 2020 into 2021. While I could have just created a survey, I created a year end ritual which I hope will be illuminating for both of us. I experienced so much joy in hand selecting  the most important questions to ask you! When you fill this out, you’ll get a copy of everything you write when you are done. (And of course I will keep your responses 100% confidential.)

If you want to take this process even further, you’ll be invited at the end of the survey to sign up for a free 60 minute sessionwith me to discuss it further as my thank you for sharing your valuable insights with me.
