Dec 15, 2023 | Embodiment, Setting Goals

If you’re anything like me, you have probably been getting inundated with offers lately for workshops to help you plan 2024.

I’ll confess too, that I’m sharing my own planning process through my New Year Series, Clearing Space for 2024 and Setting Intentions for 2024, but here’s where I believe what I’m offering is different from 80-90% of the offers you are receiving out there.

  1. I lead with Embodiment.

If you are new to my world, I define Embodiment as the integration and balance of the physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual aspects of our being.

Most planning processes are deeply rooted in the mental aspect of our being.

When we plan with our mind (to the exclusion of everything else), it is not unusual to find ourselves encountering resistance, pushing trying to make things happen, and then ending up out of alignment with our true selves and our values.

  2. I encourage you to take your  time.

I get that it can be really appealing to show up for a 2 – 3 hour block of time and “have a whole plan”.

However, the truth is that true insight and discoveries rarely come all at once.

If you are still holding on to anything from 2023 (or before), and I’m talking about emotions, thoughts, beliefs, patterns, disappointments, etc., those unprocessed experiences will color the type of planning that you do.

Not to mention that for most of us, December is one of the busiest months of the year. I found myself going out almost every night this week and feeling more tired.

This isn’t the peak time for many of us to plan for the year ahead!!

Hence the fact that I break my “planning process” into two separate workshops. We clear our energy to make space for the new on December 21st (the Winter Solstice) and then have plenty of time to process prior to finalizing our intentions and goals on January 11th (the first New Moon of 2024).

  3. We work with the Moon Cycles, Nature, and Astrology.

We just started a Mercury Retrograde on December 13th, which means it really isn’t the best time right now to make really concrete plans.

Retrogrades are a time for reflection.

We are also entering the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere on December 21st, which is the darkest day of the year.

Again a time for reflection. A time for release. A time for rooting out and clearing the things that no longer serve us.

The New Moon in January is going to feel like a much more official beginning to the year, when Mercury will also be direct!!

  4. We take care of our nervous system.

Through a variety of tools, including Energy Work, Embodied Movement, and Visualization, we get our bodies out of a sympathetic state and into a parasympathetic state. This helps us break patterns and tap into our intuition in a way that we simply can’t if our nervous system is still in fight or flight mode.

  5. We honor the masculine and the feminine.

Most coaching and goal setting processes are deeply rooted in masculine structures. This includes the idea of setting a goal and stair stepping our way there through willpower and hard work.

There is absolutely room for this approach to goal setting. However, given its dominance, most of us could benefit from incorporating more feminine energy into the process.

This allows for more play, pulling connections from many different directions and areas, and circular energy.

Since incorporating Embodiment into my planning process, I have found myself to feel a lot more motivated and inspired to pursue my goals, even when things are challenging.

I’m also a lot more flexible because my goals are value based rather than target based.

Failure to reach a goal feels less final, and I’m able to find new channels for inspiration that are often more aligned than my starting point anyway.
